What is an SDVOSB set-aside?
A Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) is at least 51% owned and controlled by one or more veterans with a service-connected disability recognized by the VA. Certification is now centralized at SBA: the Veteran Small Business Certification (VetCert) program took over from the VA's Center for Verification and Evaluation, so a single SBA certification covers both government-wide SDVOSB set-asides and the VA's own Vets First preference. Self-certification is no longer enough to hold a set-aside award.
The VA is by far the heaviest user of these set-asides, because Vets First requires it to consider veteran-owned firms ahead of other socioeconomic categories — expect a large share of the notices below to come from VA medical centers and construction offices. Sole-source awards to SDVOSBs are also permitted in defined circumstances, which is why both competitive and sole-source codes show up here.
