What is an EDWOSB set-aside?
Economically Disadvantaged Women-Owned Small Business (EDWOSB) is the narrower half of the WOSB program. Every EDWOSB is a WOSB — at least 51% owned and controlled by women who are U.S. citizens — but the qualifying owners must also pass SBA's economic-disadvantage tests, which look at personal net worth, adjusted gross income and the fair market value of personal assets. SBA publishes and periodically updates those thresholds, so check the current figures at SBA rather than a number quoted second-hand.
EDWOSB set-asides are used in the NAICS industries where SBA has found women-owned firms to be substantially underrepresented; the WOSB-only list is broader. Certification runs through the same SBA process, and an EDWOSB can compete for both EDWOSB and WOSB set-asides — which is why confirming your status is worth the effort.
