XRF and ICP-MS analyses of geological samples SOURCES SOUGHT The US Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting market research to determine the availability of qualified businesses capable of major and trace element analyses of geological samples by an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer and Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) as described in the attached Statement of Work. This sources sought announcement is not a request for quote or proposal and the Government is not committed to award of a purchase order or contract pursuant to this announcement. The information resulting from this market research is simply for planning purposes to assist the Government in determining its acquisition strategy. The Government will not pay for any costs incurred in the preparation of information for responding to this notice. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), intends to award a purchase order to Washington State University, Peter Hooper GeoAnalytical Lab for major and trace element analyses of geological samples by an X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer and Inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). Award will be made in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 13.106-1(b) and the procedures at FAR Part 12 entitled, Acquisition of Commercial Items and FAR Part 13 entitled, Simplified Acquisition Procedures. Midwest Lake Management is, to the USGS’ knowledge, the only source who can provide the equipment with the required technical specifications. The USGS currently owns a Midwest system. Therefore, data comparability and consistency are critical for these analyses. The purpose of this notice is to satisfy the requirements of FAR Subpart 5.101(a)(2) and FAR 5.2. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, all responsible parties may submit a quotation by the closing date of this announcement which shall be considered by the agency. No solicitation will be issued.
