Sources Sought USAFA Frequency Counters FA700025FrequencyCounters
Summary
AI-generated · Aug 24, 2025Two frequency counters are being sought to support USAFA physics research in atomic physics, laser spectroscopy, and quantum computing, with two units required to aid cadet experimental work and related programs. This is market research to identify capable sources; no quotes are requested at this time and the eventual contract would be firm-fixed-price with delivery FOB Destination to USAFA, CO.
Salient requirements include: minimum 15 GHz count rate; at least 100 picoseconds single-shot time resolution; 12-digit display resolution; an ultra-high-stability OCXO oven timebase with stability better than 50 ppb per year; includes a totalize mode; and two additional lower-frequency channels at 350 MHz. Vendors should submit a capabilities package including Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) and make/model with related specifications or drawings, and ensure SAM registration. Responses must be submitted electronically through the official posting by the stated deadline.
SOURCES SOUGHT: THIS IS NOT A NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR QUOTATION BUT INFORMATION AND PLANNING PURPOSES ONLY! This notice does not constitute a commitment by the Government. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) Code proposed is 334515 Instrument Manufacturing for Measuring and Testing Electricity and Electrical Signals. The size standard is 750 employees. The proposed contract is contemplated as a firm-fixed price contract. The United States Air Force Academy (USAFA) Dean of Faculty Department of Physics (DFPM) has a requirement for two (2) frequency counters for use by Cadets in support of USAFA s extensive research efforts in experimental atomic physics, laser spectroscopy, and quantum computing. The frequency counters will strongly impact and support several ongoing funded research projects in Atomic Physics and Laser Spectroscopy, as well as the proposed new Quantum Information Science minor, and the Nuclear Physics minor, for Cadets. The frequency counters must meet the following salient characteristics: at least 15 GHz count rate; at least, or better than, 100 ps single shot time resolution; 12 digits/s display resolution; ultra high stability OCXO oven timebase, stability better than 50 ppb in one year, that is, less than 5x10?8 in one year; includes totalize mode; and two other lower frequency 350 MHz channels. Delivery is FOB Destination to USAF Academy, CO 80840. Market research is being conducted to determine interest, capability, and socio-economic category of potential sources for the requirement. The government requests interested parties submit in your capabilities package: Unique Entity Identification (UEI) Make/model description and any related specifications/product drawings Please note: All contractors doing business with the Federal Government must be registered in the System for Award Management (SAM) database, and are required to maintain an active status. The website for registration is www.sam.gov. Responses may be submitted electronically to Amy Krause, Contract Specialist, at amy.krause.1@us.af.mil AND Jonathan Tringali, Contracting Officer, at jonathan.tringali.1@us.af.mil.
