Summary

AI-generated · Aug 24, 2025

Market research to determine if an alternate rugged, high-reliability low-voltage ship-to-shore receptacle and connector system can match the performance of the Crouse Hinds/Male Caisson weatherdeck receptacles, mating plugs, and mating connectors used in caisson and waterfront environments (Eaton). The alternate must operate in 480V class systems with a continuous 400A rating, be capable of handling marine and naval electrical loads under normal and emergency conditions, and be suitable for ship-to-shore power transfer.

Required features include environmental sealing (spring-door cover design, corrosion-resistant, outdoor marine environment, IP67 or equivalent), safety features (locking mechanism to prevent mating under load, high-dielectric insulation, grounded contacts), and a heavy-duty mechanical design with impact-resistant housing, watertight fittings, corrosion-resistant components, and a secure coupling/locking mechanism that supports frequent connection/disconnection. It must terminate flexible marine-grade conductors with secure sealing at entry points, and meet UL 1682, UL 514, NEC/CEC requirements for industrial pin-and-sleeve connectors, plus IEEE 45, IEEE 80005-1 or equivalent marine certifications. Submissions should include complete technical data in PDF (11-point Times New Roman or larger), company information, and a point of contact, and be delivered by 7 July 2025 at 2:00 p.m. Hawaii Standard Time to the designated contracting officer. This is market research only and does not constitute a solicitation, invitation for bids, or commitment to procure; responses become government property and may be disregarded if incomplete. Do not submit brochures.

The Government intends to procure, under only one responsible source, where no other suppliers or services will satisfy the agency requirements. The Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command, Hawaii (NAVFAC Hawaii) is conducting market research to determine if other potential products/services can provide a low voltage ship-to-shore receptacle and connector system with performance capabilities equal to that of the Crouse Hinds Male Caisson weatherdeck receptacles, mating plugs and mating connectors, manufactured by Eaton, 1000 Eaton Boulevard, Cleveland, OH 44122. The alternate product/service must meet the following requirements/specifications: Provide a rugged, high-reliability low voltage receptacle and connector system designed for ship-to-shore power applications in caisson and waterfront environments, with the following capabilities: Voltage and Current Rating Rated for use in low voltage (480V) class systems, with a continuous current rating of 400A. Must be capable of handling marine and naval electrical loads under normal and emergency conditions. Suitable for ship-to-shore power transfer needs. Environmental Sealing Spring-door cover design and corrosion-resistant construction suitable for outdoor marine environments. Fully sealed and weatherproof (minimum IP67 or equivalent), suitable for outdoor marine environments including exposure to salt spray, humidity, and temperature extremes. Safety Features Includes locking mechanism to prevent mating under load, high-dielectric strength insulation, and grounded contact design. Mechanical Design Heavy-duty construction with impact-resistant housing, watertight fittings, corrosion-resistant metal components, and secure coupling/locking mechanism. Must support frequent connection/disconnection cycles. Cable Termination Accepts flexible, marine-grade conductors with secure sealing at entry points. Certifications and Standards UL 1682 listed, UL 514 compliant, and meets NEC/CEC requirements for industrial pin-and-sleeve connectors. Complies with applicable marine, electrical, and safety standards, including IEEE Std 45, IEEE 80005-1, or equivalent marine certifications.
