Summary

AI-generated · Aug 24, 2025

Provide a Noventa 532 nm single-frequency diode-pumped solid-state laser configured as a stable CW pump at 532 nm with 250 mW output, designed for use in Brillouin Light Scattering spectrometers to measure magnetic wavelike excitations. The laser must be single-mode, with higher-order modes within 30 GHz of the fundamental suppressed by at least 95 dB, and meet these optical and mechanical specs: M2 < 1.1; beam diameter 1.5–1.9 mm; beam divergence < 0.5 mrad; power stability < 0.2% rms over 100+ hours; RMS noise from 10 Hz to 100 MHz ≤ 1.2%; linear polarization > 100:1; beam output height ≤ 41 mm; length < 14.5 (units not specified in the notice); width < 5.6; must fit on a 5.6-wide platform with the output centered; no water cooling or fans required; include all necessary cables, hardware, and power supplies (110 V, 60 Hz); and all components must be new with no used or refurbished units.

This laser is required to be interchangeable between two Brillouin spectroscopy systems to maximize uptime while measuring magnetic excitations, and the government may issue a sole-source award to Government Scientific Source if no alternate sources are identified. The notice seeks market-research information from capable sources and does not constitute a solicitation or obligation to award a contract at this time.

Notice ID Number: NIST-FY25-CHIPS-0092 Title: Noventa Single-mode 532 nm laser for Brillouin Light Scattering Spectrometer Notice of Intent to Sole Source to Government Scientific Source The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing a Noventa 532 nm single frequency laser. If no alternate sources are identified, the Government intends to issue a Sole Source Award to Government Scientific Source (12355 Sunrise Valley Dr. Suite 400, Reston, VA 20191) under the authority of FAR 13.106-1(b); only one source reasonably available. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516. BACKGROUND The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) requires a Noventa 532 nm single frequency laser to measure magnetic wavelike excitations. Brillouin Light scattering spectrometers to measure magnetic wavelike excitations. NIST will build a second spectrometer, which promises faster data acquisition than an already existing spectrometer. A critical component of these spectrometers is a stable single-mode continuous wave (cw) laser. Lasers. The laser pump-diodes have finite lifetimes and require replacement at the factory. Also, lasers need to be eventually returned to the factory for repairs or service. To minimize downtime and ensure continuous measurement capability on both spectrometers in case a laser needs to be returned to the factory, we require that the lasers can be moved between the two spectrometers and simply dropped into the other system. This requires that the laser specifications are identical to the existing laser. The power may exceed the power of the existing laser. General Requirements: Laser shall be a diode pump solid state (DPSS laser with an output power of 250 mW at 532 nm. The laser must demonstrate that the higher order modes within 30 GHz of the fundamental mode are suppressed by at least 95dB compared to the fundamental mode by the vendor or by a customer. Laser shall have an M2 value better than 1.1 Shall have a beam diameter between 1.5 mm and 1.9 mm Shall have a beam divergence smaller than 0.5 mrad Shall have a power stability better than 0.2% rms over more than 100 hours. Shall have RMS noise from 10 Hz 100 MHz equal or less than 1.2%. The polarization of the laser beam shall be linear with a ratio higher than 100:1 The laser beam output shall be at a height of 41 mm or less. The length of the laser shall be less than 14.5 . The width of the laser shall be less than 5.6 . The laser shall fit onto a 5.6 wide platform that the laser output is in the center of the 5.6 wide platform. The laser shall not require cooling by water or fan(s). Shall include all necessary cables, hardware, and power supplies. Power supplies must be US standard 110 V at 60 Hz. All components shall be new. Used or refurbished systems will not be considered. NIST is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing a solution that will achieve the objectives described above.
