Summary

AI-generated · Aug 25, 2025

Development of therapeutic or preventative technologies for pediatric cancers and/or rare cancers, and development of devices, diagnostic technologies, or digital health tools for treatment, detection, and diagnosis in these populations. Rare cancers with a 5-year survival rate below 50% are encouraged, with rarity defined by the NIH Genetics and Rare Diseases Information Center; use the SEER database for context on survival rates. Preliminary data are not required, but proposals should have a sound scientific premise based on the offeror’s own research or literature, identify an anticipated product and its development path, clearly specify the clinical problem and cancer type(s) with justification, and propose experiments to obtain initial de-risking and proof-of-concept data.

Awards will include requirements to enhance entrepreneurship skills and to develop or refine a business model and commercialization plan, and this Concept Award program may serve as a pipeline into the federal SBIR program.
