The Government intends to solicit and negotiate with GDMS, and this contract action will be awarded pursuant to 10 U.S.C. 3204(a)(1) as implemented by Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1. Program Executive Office (PEO) Undersea Warfare Systems (PEOUWS), Undersea Weapons Program Office (PMS 404), is the Program Office responsible for this program. The MK 48 HWT torpedo is the U.S. Navy s primary submarine launched anti-submarine (ASW) and anti-surface warfare (ASUW) weapon. The MK48 MOD 8 is the latest iteration of the HWT torpedo. It is a high performance, self-propelled underwater vehicle that contains complex electronic and mechanical subassembly systems for providing propulsion, steering, navigation, and target detection. The system technologies include acoustic sonar, G&C electronics, electrical power, hydraulic systems, mechanical pumps, and propulsion.
