Description Moody AFB has a requirement seeking repair work on the LMR tower. The Land Mobile Radio System located at 23 Communication Squadron serves as the primary antenna supporting communication for handheld radios across the base. PROJECT SCOPE: All work will be conducted at the 23 Communication Squadron LMR tower. This structure is a three-leg guyed tower with five 20-ft. sections and one 10-ft. base section. The tower sections have pipe legs and welded solid round bracing members. The tower has two guy levels (48-ft. and 97-ft.) and a total of three guy anchors, one each direction. All sections have a "S" bracing pattern. PROJECT REQUIREMENTS: The Contract is responsible for the following. a. The top cap plates need to be installed to prevent water intrusion inside the tower legs. The legs are open and getting rain water inside, this condition will accelerate corrosion inside the pipe legs. b. The guy wires need to be tensioned to 10% of the wire breaking strength. This value is 660 pounds for a 1/4" guy wire. The tower needs to be plumb during this process. If new guy wires are place new thimbles will need to be installed. c. The side arms at the 103-ft. level need to be relocated to the original location, similarly spaced around the tower as the other three side arms at 75-ft. level. d. Remove any unused antenna and transmission lines no longer needed. e. Cold galvanizing compound will need to be applied to corroded thimbles. f. Provide climbing gear and safely equipment.
