Summary

AI-generated · May 23, 2026

The CDC seeks Laboratory Testing and Research Accreditation Assessment Services to obtain ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation by an accrediting body with specialized expertise in environmental Legionella testing. Among U.S. accrediting bodies, only the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA) routinely maintains assessors with this expertise; IAS and UAF do not, and international providers are cost-prohibitive due to travel. A sole-source award to A2LA is proposed under the stated authorities because A2LA is deemed the only capable source to meet the requirement.

This notice is not a competitive solicitation, but interested parties may identify their capability and respond for consideration within ten days of issuance. The government will determine, at its discretion, whether to pursue competition based on the responses received. Responses should be submitted to the CDC contracting office within the specified window.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to award a sole source purchase order to American Association for Laboratory Accreditation for services for which the Government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of 12.102(a) (FAR -RFO) and 41 U.S.C.3304(a)(1). Interested persons may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement or submit proposals. Contractor: American Association for Laboratory Accreditation Description of product/service: Laboratory Testing and Research Accreditation Assessment Services Capability: CDC and ASHRAE guidance recommend ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation by an accrediting body with expertise in environmental Legionella testing. Of the three U.S.-recognized accrediting bodies (A2LA, IAS, and UAF), only A2LA routinely maintains assessors with specialized expertise in environmental Legionella testing. IAS and UAF confirmed they do not routinely provide this capability and recommended A2LA. International providers were determined to be cost prohibitive due to assessor s travel costs. Therefore, A2LA is the only responsible source capable of meeting the Government s requirement. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, all quotations/responses received within ten (10) days of the issuance of this notice will be considered by the government. A determination by the government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct competitive procurement. Any quotation/response should be emailed to contract specialist at xrm5@cdc.gov by Close of Business (COB) 01 June 2026.
