Pharmacy Sterile Compounding Hood Replacement and Certification 1. INTRODUCTION Pharmacy Service is replacing sterile medication compounding equipment that has reached end of service life. Two (2) biologic safety cabinets (BSC) have been procured and require additional services to assemble/install and certify within Pharmacy cleanroom DB21B. 2. BACKGROUND BSC s are a type of primary engineering control (PEC) that create a near air particle free environment supportive of aseptic compounding of sterile medication products. These cabinets are often referred to as hoods and weight >500 lbs. New equipment is shipped on a pallet and requires transport to the location of installation. The unit must then be lifted and placed on a stand that requires assembly. Once installed initial certification must be conducted per regulatory requirements prior to use. Per VHA Directive 1108.12, equipment must be certified per Controlled Environment Testing Association (CETA) CAG-003-2006. Certification must be performed by a qualified contractor which is CETA National Board Testing (CNBT) registered or employs at least one employee with this credential. 3. SCOPE OF WORK The Contractor shall: Unpack and transport BSC cabinets from onsite storage location to final installation location of room DB21B. Assemble cabinet stand with casters and place unit onto of stand per manufacturer instructions. Hardware and instructions provided by manufacturer. Set stand height per VA Pharmacy selection. Perform initial certification of BSC equipment per CETA CAG-003-2006. Verify compliance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Chapter 797 requirements. 4.
