Summary

AI-generated · Jan 15, 2026

This is market research (sources sought/RFI) to identify conformable batteries capable of powering wearable hubs for special warfare personnel. The goal is a streamlined, silhouette-friendly battery that can be concealable and protected within a body-worn kit (kit fabric or ballistic plates) to reduce bulk and the risk of damage to the battery during operations.

Key requirements include SMBus/SBData v1.1 compliance; wearable form factor with thickness under 1 inch and footprint under 11x11 inches; maximum weight of 3 pounds (excluding cables, adapters, and charging accessories); AC/DC charging with vehicle or solar charging as preferred secondary options; compatibility with common industry interfaces and easy configurability for future needs; operation in extreme temperatures from below 20°F to above 130°F; and the ability to deliver power for more than 5 hours of continuous use when fully charged.

BACKGROUND AND SCOPE The United States (US) Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC), Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance & Special Operations Forces (ISR & SOF) Directorate, Special Warfare Program Office (AFLCMC/WISN) is conducting market research to identify conformable batteries to power wearable hubs for special warfare personnel. CAPABILITY GAP Current batteries used are bulky and obstruct movement of special warfare operators. Additionally, current battery solution options leave the operator s (current) battery exposed creating significant risk as the battery is more susceptible to damage by gunfire or other kinetic action. The solution shall be more streamlined and better integrate into an operator s silhouette profile and body worn kit. System Requirements: - The battery shall be SMBus and SBData compliant to v1.1 as a minimum. - The battery shall be wearable and of a size less than one (1) inch in thickness/depth and less than 11x11 inches (length/height) to allow concealable and protectable configuration within a ground operator s/military member s body-worn kit (within kit fabric and/or protected by ballistic plates). - The battery unit less than or equal to 3 pounds in maximum weight (excluding cables, adapters, and charging accessories). - The battery shall be AC/DC chargeable. Other charging capabilities include vehicle and/or solar as preferred secondary options. - The battery should have options to connect equipment via common industry standards and easily configurable to end user s future requirements - The battery shall be capable of operating in extreme environments to include temperatures below 20 degrees Fahrenheit and above 130 degrees Fahrenheit. - The battery, when fully charged, shall be capable of providing power exceeding five (5) hours of continuous use
