Summary

AI-generated · Mar 27, 2026

Two straight edges are needed for straightness-error mapping: one longer than 1200 mm and another about 700 mm. The 700 mm edge must include fixturing to mount it vertically, and both edges must provide a sufficiently large probing surface (not just a line-scale or ruler) to support probing. If no other capable sources are found, the government intends to award a sole-source contract to Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, Inc. for these two straight edges.

Respondents should provide non-proprietary information demonstrating the ability to meet or exceed these specifications, including whether you are an authorized reseller and evidence of such authorization, relevant experience, and any factors that could affect competition. Include input on potential barriers to participation and suggestions to broaden access for small businesses, and indicate your firm’s small-business status. This is a market-research step, not a solicitation or quote, and questions should be directed to the listed points of contact by the stated deadline.

NIST-SS26-02 6640 / 334516? Primary POC: Liz Timberlake (Elizabeth.timberlake@nist.gov)? Secondary POC: Forest Crumpler (forest.crumpler@nist.gov) Title:? Straight Edges for the Straightness error mapping BACKGROUND ***THIS IS A COMBINED SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE AND NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE*** The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing Straight Edges for the Straightness error mapping. If no alternate sources are identified, the Government intends to issue a Sole Source Award to Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence, Inc. (250 Circuit Drive, North Kensington, RI) under the authority of FAR 12.102(a) only one reasonably found source. The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516. NIST has a need for 2 Straight Edges for the Straightness error mapping that meets or exceeds the following draft minimum specifications: The Contractor shall provide two (2) Straight Edges for the Straightness error mapping that meet the following minimum specifications: One Straight Edge should be >1200 mm in length One Straight Edge should be ~700 mm in length Must include fixturing to mount the ~700 mm straight edge vertically Must include sufficient surface area for probing (not a 1 dimensional, linescale or ruler). NIST conducted market research from January through March 2026 by attending conferences, speaking with colleagues, performing internet searches, and speaking with vendors to determine what sources could meet NIST s minimum requirements. The results of that market research revealed that only Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence Inc. appears to be capable of meeting NIST s requirements.
