When a vehicle turns, the outside wheel must travel a greater distance and therefore rotate faster than the inside wheel. The differential assembly permits the necessary speed differences and prevents excessive tire wear and drivetrain strain. The differential receives rotational input from a longitudinal driveshaft and outputs a transverse rotation to both right and left axles. This specific differential is part of the number four axle assembly, so it also has a longitudinal output that transmits rotation via a driveshaft to the number five axle. Another feature of a differential is it dictates the axle s gear ratio. The Government does not have rights to the Technical Data Package (TDP) or specifications. This sources sought notice is published in compliance with FAR Part 10, Market Research. The purpose of this sources sought notice is to canvas the industry for any possible other sources.
