Background: The Smithsonian Institution (SI) facilities contain approximately seventy (70) Environmentally Controlled Walk-In (ECWs) units of various manufacturers. The ECWs encompass diverse operating conditions and house items such as national collections, specimens, animal food and medicine, preparatory lab items, necropsy products, artifacts, low radioactive material, photographs, biobank material, pest control items, DNA, somatic cells, tissues, blood products, artifacts, germplasm (sperm and eggs), embryos, waste products, as well as other animals, plant, and soil products that support SI s mission. The ECWs are mechanically diverse with differing electrical supply voltages, refrigerant systems, sizes, purposes, and environmental controls. Period of Performance: The initial period of performance is for one (1) year from the date of award. The Smithsonian Institution hereby reserves the right to renew the resultant contract with the selected Contractor(s) for nine (9) additional one (1) year periods.
